1,500-year old mummy found wearing 'ADIDAS trainers'

1,500-year old mummy found wearing 'ADIDAS trainers'

Partial remains of a woman who is believed to have died some 1,500-years ago have been found, nearly 10,000 feet high in the Altai Mountains.

So far, they have found only one hand and the mummy's feet.

But it is what is on them that has seen the internet into meltdown.

This is because the traditional footwear of the time looks more like it was designed by German sportswear brand Adidas complete with the iconic stripes.

One puzzled social media user wrote on LiveLeak: "Didn't know they had Adidas back then…"

Another questioned: "The mummy had on some Adidas in the first pic?"

The discovery comes after Daily Star Online reported on the bizarre discovery of an "800-year-old" mobile phone that some claim could be evidence of an advanced civilisation or time travel.

But experts say "Adidas" find is one of the most unique insights into Mongolian life at the time.

It is the first Turkik burial to be discovered in Central Asia, and the authorities have already answered a lot of questions.

A Khovd Museum spokesman told the Siberian Times: "This person was not from elite, and we believe it was likely a woman, because there is no bow in the tomb.

"Now we are carefully unwrapping the body and once this is complete the specialists will be able to say more precisely about the gender."

Also found with her remains were a saddle, bridle, clay vase, wooden bowl, trough, iron kettle, and an entire horse.

Sukhbaatar continued: "It is the first complete Turkik burial at least in Mongolia - and probably in all Central Asia. This is a very rare phenomenon.

"These finds show us the beliefs and rituals of Turkiks.

"We can see clearly that the horse was deliberately sacrificed.

"It was a mare, between four and eight years old."
