Turkish expert: Erdogan to win second round of elections

Turkish expert: Erdogan to win second round of elections
18.05.2023 11:30
Incumbent Turkish President Tayyip Recep Erdogan will win the runoff election scheduled for May 28 with over 53% of the vote, reported from TASS.

The forecast was made by Hilmi Dasdemir, head of the Turkish public opinion research company Optimar, who was one of the few who correctly predicted the results of the first round of voting held on May 14.

He believes that the opposition overestimated its possibilities in the elections, didn't plan the process thoroughly, came up with slogans, many of which were not accepted by public. "As a result, the opposition lost not only in the presidential elections, but didn’t receive a majority in parliament, either, although it didn’t have great ambitions,” Dasdemir said.

The parliamentary elections ended with the victory of the ruling Justice and Development Party, led by Erdogan, which won 323 seats in the 600-seat parliament.
