Szijjarto: Hungary expects success of future talks between Washington and Moscow on Ukraine

Hungary supports dialogue between Russia and the US at the highest level and hopes for the success of future negotiations between Washington and Moscow for achieving peace in Ukraine as soon as possible, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto said at a joint press conference following negotiations with Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Murat Nurtleu.
"Today we discussed the situation in Ukraine in detail. As a result of this conflict, our countries have suffered significant losses, therefore it is our common interest to achieve a cessation of war in Ukraine and conclude a peace agreement as soon as possible," noted Szijjarto.
He expressed hope that the new US administration and its policy will create opportunities for achieving peace in Ukraine as soon as possible.
"Therefore, we welcome dialogue between Russia and the US at the highest level. We are glad that Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin are discussing current issues. It is also important that, as a continuation of these negotiations, Senator Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a meeting and discussed possible ways to resolve the conflict in Ukraine... We hope that President Trump's efforts will be successful and that negotiations between Russia and the US will bring positive results," stated the Hungarian foreign minister.
At the same time, Szijjarto emphasized that in Europe, the positions of those who are not interested in peaceful resolution of the conflict are strengthening.
"We Hungarians have always advocated for keeping communication channels open. A diplomatic solution to the conflict must remain a priority. However, because of this position, we were often criticized both in Europe and in Washington, being accused of pro-Russian rhetoric. But we have always stood on the side of diplomacy and dialogue. Our position has been and remains that resolving the conflict through military means is impossible. And, as time shows, our position was and remains correct," emphasized Szijjarto.
