The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump plans to cut another $1 billion in federal funding to Harvard University, The Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday, citing sources.

The proposed cut would primarily affect medical research funding, the report said. The move comes after the university refused to alter its internal policies aimed at protecting Jewish students from antisemitism.

Harvard President Alan Garber earlier said the university would not comply with the Trump administration’s demands to change its approach.

On April 15, Trump proposed stripping Harvard of its tax-exempt status, suggesting it be reclassified as a political organization. The U.S. Department of Education has already frozen $2.2 billion in grants and $60 million in long-term contracts. The administration is also reviewing grants and contracts with the university totaling nearly $9 billion.
