Pope Francis’ funeral Mass will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2025, in St. Peter’s Square, the Holy See Press Office announced.

The Mass will be led by Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, Dean of the College of Cardinals, and concelebrated by clergy from around the world, including Patriarchs, Cardinals, Archbishops, Bishops, and priests.

The Eucharistic celebration will conclude with the Ultima commendatio and Valedictio, marking the start of the Novemdiales, nine days of mourning and prayers for the late pontiff.

Following the service, Pope Francis' body will be transferred to the Basilica of St. Mary Major for burial.

On Wednesday, April 23, his coffin will be moved from the chapel at Casa Santa Marta to St. Peter’s Basilica to allow the faithful to pay their final respects.

Cardinal Kevin Farrell, Camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church, will lead the procession beginning at 9:00 a.m. The cortege will pass through Santa Marta Square and the Square of the Roman Protomartyrs, entering the basilica through the central door.

The procession will conclude at the Altar of the Confession, where Cardinal Farrell will preside over the Liturgy of the Word. Public visitation will follow.
