Russian Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu has not ruled out the possibility of resuming nuclear tests if the United States takes similar steps, reported TASS.

“Our position on this matter depends on the actions of the United States,” Shoigu said in an interview. “Warranty periods for some types of their nuclear munitions are expiring, and new weapons are under development. This could push Washington to resume nuclear testing.”

“In that case, Russia may follow suit as a response,” he added, noting that the Defense Ministry and Rosatom are prepared for such activities.

Shoigu emphasized that Russia has developed and deployed a number of cutting-edge strategic weapons that have no equivalents globally.

“In these conditions, there is no urgent need for nuclear tests,” he said.
