New criminal charge filed against jailed Istanbul mayor

A new criminal case has been opened against Ekrem İmamoğlu, the jailed former mayor of Istanbul, this time on charges of “insulting a public official,” the Turkish Anadolu agency reported.
According to the report, İmamoğlu allegedly used offensive language toward judicial staff while giving a statement related to an earlier charge of “aiding an armed terrorist organization.”
No official statement has yet been issued on the matter.
