China sentences ex-Xinjiang official to death for bribery

A court in China’s Guangxi region sentenced Dou Wanhui, former deputy head of the Xinjiang political advisory body, to death with a two-year reprieve for bribery, state news agency Xinhua reported.
Dou was also stripped of political rights for life and had all personal assets confiscated. He was found guilty of accepting bribes worth nearly 229 million yuan ($32 million) between 2003 and 2022 while holding various posts in Xinjiang.
The court cited his confession, remorse, and return of illicit funds as mitigating factors.
