Iran faces historic water crisis, Israel’s past offer resurfaces amid fears of collapse
31.07.2025 11:00

Iran is experiencing a severe water crisis, with reservoirs at historic lows, cities rationing supplies, and economic losses from industrial shutdowns estimated at $12–24 billion annually.

The government warns that without radical reforms, up to 20 million people may be forced to migrate within the country due to drought, crop failures, and power outages.

Experts say the crisis stems from decades of poor water management, outdated agriculture, and overexploitation of groundwater.

Israel, which overcame similar water shortages through desalination and wastewater recycling, offered to help Iran in 2018 — an offer Tehran rejected. As conditions worsen, analysts question whether Iran will reconsider for the sake of national survival.
