Turkish Airlines bans smart luggage with non-removable batteries

Turkish Airlines has banned the transportation of smart luggage with non-removable lithium batteries, both in checked baggage and carry-on.
citing Russian media, that according to the airline's customs support service, smart suitcases are equipped with lithium batteries and can be controlled via a smartphone using Bluetooth.
“Smart luggage with lithium batteries that cannot be removed is not allowed either in checked baggage or in carry-on,” the company stated.
The rules have been introduced in line with the recommendations of Türkiye’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation.
The support service clarified that carrying the luggage in the cabin is permitted if the passenger removes the battery for the duration of the flight. To protect the battery from potential short circuits, it must be stored in its original packaging or in special protective bags. The suitcase can be checked in if the passenger takes the battery with them as part of their carry-on.
