Google ordered to pay $425.7 mln over privacy violations

A San Francisco court has ordered Google to pay $425.7 million in damages after a jury found the company violated users’ privacy rights, Bloomberg reported.
The class-action lawsuit was filed in 2020, accusing Google of continuing to collect user data from third-party apps since 2016 even when the “App and Web History” setting was disabled.
The jury found the company guilty of breaching privacy but rejected claims of computer fraud and abuse.
In July, a California jury separately ordered Google to pay $314 million over allegations it used Android users’ mobile data without consent for targeted advertising.
