Armenia and Iran signed a memorandum of cooperation following the 13th consular consultations between their foreign ministries in Yerevan, reported on September 11.

Specifics on the talks were unavailable, but recent agreements between Armenia and Azerbaijan on the so-called Trump-backed road plan, which appears to cut Iran off from the Synunik corridor, were likely at the top of Tehran's agenda following weeks of public concern.

The Armenian delegation was headed by Foreign Ministry Secretary General David Karapetyan, whilst the Iranian delegation was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Vahid Jalalzade.

The consultation agenda included implementation of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations from April 24, 1963, as well as issues concerning the rights and legitimate interests of citizens and legal entities from both countries.

Both parties stressed the importance of continuing foreign ministry efforts to deepen cooperation in judicial, trade, economic, scientific and educational spheres.
