At least 1,000 prisoners have been executed in Iran since the start of 2025, the highest figure in three decades, according to rights group Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO). Sixty-four executions were recorded in the past week alone.

IHRNGO said 50% of executions were for drug-related crimes, 43% for murder, 3% for security-related charges such as armed rebellion and “enmity against God,” 3% for rape and 1% for spying for Israel.

The group noted that only 11% of the executions were officially announced by Iranian authorities.
