MP questions the impact of metro fare hikes on vulnerable groups

Fazil Mustafa, a member of Azerbaijan’s parliament, said recent metro fare hikes may be economically justified but raised concerns about how the changes will affect vulnerable groups.

Speaking at a plenary session, he said students, children of martyrs’ families, people with Down syndrome or autism and patients traveling for treatment still lack clarity on special travel cards.

Mustafa also highlighted problems with airport taxi services, saying a lack of alternative providers forces passengers to pay high fees.

“The ombudsman has already called for ending the taxi monopoly. Today, passengers arriving from Nakhchivan for 50–60 manats must pay another 30–40 manats to reach the city,” he said.
