US woman charges husband for household chores left undone

An American woman, Jess Wright, came up with an unusual way to resolve domestic disputes: she bills her husband for items left out and chores forgotten.
The system is simple: $5 fines for small lapses such as leaving out toothpaste, $10–20 for missing laundry, and up to $50 for more serious offenses. Her husband’s monthly “debts” range from $30 to $600.
At first, he was stunned, but later admitted it works: “It’s unusual. But she doesn’t yell. I just pay — and that’s it.”
Jess said the idea came after the birth of their three children, when household work piled up. The money collected goes into savings or is spent on herself.
The story sparked mixed reactions online: some praised it as a creative way to keep peace, while others jokingly suggested adding a “service fee.”
