Israel, US reach compromise over fate of Hamas fighters

Israel, US reach compromise over fate of Hamas fighters
12.11.2025 10:00

Israel and the United States have reached a compromise that will allow around 200 Hamas fighters hiding in tunnels in areas of the Gaza Strip controlled by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to leave, The Jerusalem Post reported, citing sources.

According to the publication, so far no regional country has expressed willingness to accept these Palestinians.

The agreement was reached during talks in Jerusalem between U.S. presidential envoy and son-in-law Jared Kushner and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The sides also discussed possible demilitarization of the Gaza Strip, the disarmament of Hamas, and the complete elimination of the group’s influence in the enclave.

Earlier, The Financial Times reported that the United States and several other countries had been pressuring Israel to allow Hamas militants to exit the tunnels located in IDF-controlled areas to prevent a humanitarian disaster.

According to Israeli intelligence, about 200 armed Hamas fighters remain trapped in underground shelters, unable to retreat without exposing themselves to Israeli forces.
