An explosion and fire hit a gas pipeline in Russia
An explosion and fire broke out on a gas pipeline in Russia’s Omsk region after a suspected gas leak, regional officials said.
Governor Vitaly Khotsenko said the blaze erupted near the village of Rostovka on an underground section of the trunk pipeline. Flames were visible from several kilometres away, but no casualties were reported, he said.
“One possible version is a gas leak. Emergency services are working at the site,” Khotsenko said.
Videos posted online showed a large fire and thick smoke. Residents reported a powerful blast that was heard in nearby settlements.
Local media said the explosion may have occurred during repair work. Gazprom specialists estimate that repairs could take up to 24 hours.
