Doctors in Azerbaijan accused of selling fake disability status
A Baku court has opened preliminary hearings in the case of Alishirin Aliyev, former head of the polyclinic at Sabirabad District Central Hospital, and two associates – Gabil Guliyev and Intigam Karimov – who are charged with taking bribes to issue disability status based on falsified medical records.
Investigators say the defendants entered false diagnoses into the e-tabib medical information system to secure disability approval for individuals who did not meet medical criteria. The next court hearing is scheduled for December 3.
The charges include abuse of office, large-scale bribery, fraud and forgery. Due to their age and health conditions, the defendants were placed under police supervision rather than pre-trial detention.
