Azerbaijan hosted the first D-8 Media Forum in Baku, where member states agreed to establish a Media Excellence Centre and develop new strategies to counter disinformation, Euronews reported. The event marks strengthened cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Developing-8 Organisation for Economic Cooperation, which Baku joined as a full member in March 2025.

Around 150 delegates, including 71 foreign participants, attended the forum. In a message delivered on his behalf, President Ilham Aliyev said one of the forum’s key tasks is to build an impartial and responsible information environment among member states.

D-8 Secretary General Isiaka Abdulqadir Imam said the proposed Media Excellence Centre would amplify the bloc’s collective voice globally. He also suggested creating a D-8 Broadcasting Association.

The D-8 includes Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Turkey and Azerbaijan.
