Zelenskiy begins talks in Germany with Trump’s envoys on possible peace plan

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has begun talks in Germany with U.S. President Donald Trump’s envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to discuss details of a possible peace plan for the Ukraine conflict.

Ukraine’s national security chief Rustem Umerov is also participating in the meeting.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz attended only the opening greetings and left shortly afterwards, DPA reported. His foreign and security adviser Günther Sautter remained to moderate the talks.

According to Bild, Kyiv prioritises security guarantees and is ready to discuss “territorial issues” only after such guarantees are secured. The idea of a demilitarised zone is being considered separately, with Zelenskiy insisting it could only work under international supervision.

The talks come amid intensified U.S. diplomatic efforts and ongoing debates over ceasefire terms, territorial arrangements and security guarantees. The meeting is expected to allow both sides to exchange positions and outline next steps in the negotiation process.
