The Iranian rial (IRR) has effectively been quoted at “0.00” against the euro on currency platforms for the second consecutive day, according to exchange data.

On trading platforms, 1 Iranian rial is displayed as 0.00 euro, largely due to rounding mechanisms, highlighting the sharp depreciation of the national currency.

Protests in Iran began on December 28, 2025, around Tehran’s Grand Bazaar — the country’s main commercial hub — amid public anger over economic hardship, the rial’s collapse and soaring inflation. The unrest later spread to other cities.

Unofficial figures suggest the death toll from the protests has reached 3,000.

On January 8, as protests intensified in Tehran, reports said buses, ambulances, 24 houses, 25 mosques, two hospitals and 26 banks were set on fire.

Following the unrest, Iranian authorities imposed a nationwide internet shutdown.
