Iran Grants Women the Right to Obtain Motorcycle Licenses
In a significant policy shift, the Iranian government has officially authorized women to obtain motorcycle driving licenses, state media reported. The decree, signed by First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref, was approved in January and marks a rare expansion of women’s rights in the country.
Under the new regulations, the General Command of the Police is tasked with organizing practical driving courses and conducting examinations for female applicants under the supervision of the traffic police.
While this move is seen as a step toward greater social mobility, Iranian women continue to face restrictions in other areas, including a long-standing ban on attending men’s football matches in stadiums, despite pressure from FIFA and international organizations.
