Iranian diaspora rallies in Western cities in support of protests in Iran
Members of the Iranian diaspora held rallies in several cities across Europe and the United States over the weekend in support of nationwide protests in Iran.
In London, demonstrators gathered on Sunday for a solidarity rally backing protesters in Iran.
Demonstrations also took place in Berlin, where a protest was held near the Brandenburg Gate. Police said around 8,000 people attended at the start of the rally, while organisers claimed up to 100,000 participants. Many attendees were reported to be relatives of Iranians killed or detained during protests at home.
In the United States, Iranians living in Bellevue, near Seattle, staged a rally calling for global support for the protest movement.
Members of the Iranian diaspora in Georgia gathered in Tbilisi, chanting slogans including “We will reclaim Iran”.
One of the organisers of the Berlin demonstration was the group known as the “Iranian Society in Exile”.
