Is this the coolest job in the world?

Ryan McNaught, from Melbourne, made that dream a reality. The father-of-two is one of just 12 LEGO certified professionals around the world, who spends all day building spectacular giant sculptures for shop displays, exhibitions and events.

In a world-first, an exhibition called Brick Man Experience – The Complete Collection by Ryan McNaught will feature 60 original works along with their own unique behind-the-scenes stories, drawings and sketches.

More than five million LEGO bricks have gone into the remarkable collection, which has opened its doors to the public at Town Hall in Sydney just in time for the school holidays.

Among the impressive pieces on display are an intricate Sydney Opera House, the Colosseum, cruise ships and McNaught's signature Qantas A380 – the model that landed him the job.

'Back in 2010 I was paying LEGO with my kids like any good dad does and I used to be in IT and I wrote a piece of software for the iPad to hook up to LEGO's robotics system,' Mr McNaught told AAP.

'When I wrote this piece of software I made a model to show it off. So I had an A380, a big LEGO airplane, full of robotics - the wheels would come down and the flaps extend, engines, stuff like that. And on the iPad I had a picture of the cockpit so kids could be the pilot.'

Made entirely from LEGO pieces, Mr McNaught, also known as the LEGO Brick Man, will feature some of his finest works based around the transport theme from their native country.

'I am thrilled to be bringing the Brick Man Experience to Sydney! It's great for me to be able to have all my works together in one place for people to enjoy. This is the last chance to see these works on display in Australia so it really is a must-see for all the family!' he said.

'We had a great response to the Melbourne exhibition and I'm really excited to share my creations with fans. I've also got a few exciting things for the kids (and big kids!) to participate in, so everyone can enjoy creating brick masterpieces as well as enjoying the exhibition. It's going to be heaps of fun!'

Despite trading in his corporate job for a Lego workshop, the model maker said his greatest concern is that there's a whole lot of eight-year-olds out there who want to bump him off to take his job.

The Brick Man Experience – The Complete Collection by Ryan McNaught will run in Town Hall, Sydney until July 12.
