Yerevan rejects proposal for Azerbaijani and Armenian experts’ meeting in Ankara

From the first days of its establishment in 2019, the Center for the Analysis of International Relations has demonstrated a strong position to promote peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, according to the Center for Analysis of International Relations.

"Even before the 44-day war, the Center tried to send a peaceful message to Armenian colleagues through various channels, inviting them to work together for a peaceful settlement of the Armenian- Azerbaijani conflict,” the center said.

Due to Armenia’s refusal to participate in Track 1.5 diplomacy, the Azerbaijani government’s long-term efforts and the efforts undertaken by the Center in parallel were unsuccessful. Due to the failure of diplomatic efforts, the government of Azerbaijan had to liberate the occupied territories by military means, having won an important victory in the 44-day war.

The Center is committed to the peace agenda and highly appreciates the opportunities created by the settlement of the conflict. In order to promote peace efforts between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the Center continued its efforts to reach out to partner organizations such as the Orbeli Center in Armenia and use the tools and potential of Track 1.5 diplomacy. To this end, the Center appreciates the mediation offers of common international partners and tries to take advantage of them.

"However, unfortunately, in April of this year, the Armenian side rejected an attempt to meet in Ankara. With such an irresponsible attitude, the Armenian government and think tanks ignored all the efforts and resources of our common international partners and demonstrated that they do not take the dialogue between the two countries seriously.

The Center believes that such an approach of the Armenian colleagues is detrimental to peace efforts, and regrets that the Armenian side avoids consistent and meaningful contacts, thereby increasing tension between the parties and hindering peace and reconciliation between the two societies as a whole,” reads the message.
