You may not be aware that Facebook isn't showing you all of your messages.

Everyday the social network is busy checking and filtering your messages and, when it doesn't think you'll want to read what's been sent it pushes it into a separate inbox.

This filtering was discovered last year and revelation forced Facebook to change the way it handles people who aren't your friends.

However, it seems Facebook is still filtering and weeding out messages from your inbox and dumping them in another hidden inbox.

This filtering is like a spam folder in your email inbox and, like a spam folder, Facebook doesn't always get it right.

Luckily it's fairly simple to see what Facebook has filtered.

HERE'S HOW TO TO DO IT

Firstly you need to launch the Messenger app on your smartphone.

Then click on the Settings tab in the bottom right-hand corner of the display.

Head to People > Message Requests > See Filtered Requests.

This is where you'll find the messages that Facebook thinks you didn't want to see.

Daily Star Online checked our hidden inbox and, along with some spam, there were four unread messages from friends.

Another member of the team found an email from a kind stranger who'd found their lost wallet … back in 2013.

And one unlucky team member stumbled across a message from a competition organiser informing them that they were the lucky winner of a digital camera.

Unfortunately the competition – and the subsequent distribution of prizes – had wrapped up some five months earlier.

So this hidden inbox is definitely worth checking.
