Zimbabwe's 2014 footballer of the year eyes Azerbaijan move

Reigning Castle Lager Footballer of the Year, Dennis Dauda who plays his club football with ZPC Kariba, is on the brink of sealing a move to Europe with Azerbaijan Premier League side Gabala.

Dauda, a technically gifted centre-back, was chosen the Soccer Star of the Year last year after helping his club ZPC Kariba to a second place finish in the league race behind eventual champions Dynamos.

He became the first centre-back in a dozen years to win the accolade and now appears set for a dream move to Europe.

Dauda is currently in Turkey where he has linked up with his prospective club Gabala.

According to Azerbaijan media reports, Gabala are looking for a good central defender and will monitor Dauda for the next few days when they are expected to play in an international friendly match.

Dauda has previously stated that he would be seeking a foreign club if he was to move from ZPC Kariba.

Gabala are currently in sixth spot in the current season after 16 games.

Azerbaijan is famed for its oil springs and natural gas sources which has led to a robust economy and boosted standards of living in the country.

A number of players throughout the world, including several from Brazil and England, are now playing in the local league.
