TotalEnergies halts SATORP refinery in Saudi Arabia after damage to processing unit
TotalEnergies said it had halted operations at the SATORP refinery in Saudi Arabia, a joint venture with Saudi Aramco, after damage to one of its processing units.
The incident occurred overnight on April 7–8 and affected one of the refinery’s two production lines, the company said, adding there were no reports of casualties.
“As a precaution, the units were shut down and an assessment of the impact on operations is under way,” TotalEnergies said.
SATORP, located in Jubail, is one of the world’s largest refineries, with a capacity of about 465,000 barrels per day. Saudi Aramco holds a 62.5% stake in the facility.
Separately, oil output in Saudi Arabia has dropped by around 600,000 barrels per day following recent strikes attributed to Iran, while flows through the East-West pipeline have also declined by about 700,000 bpd, according to Saudi media citing the energy ministry.
