Armenian citizens may be barred from Istanbul's Armenian schools, report says

Turkey's Ministry of National Education may ban children with Armenian citizenship from enrolling in Armenian minority schools in Istanbul, local portal Ermenihaber reported.

According to the report, Turkish education officials allegedly notified administrators of Armenian schools about the impending restriction and advised families to transfer their children to public state schools. The outlet added that similar compliance inspections may soon be conducted at Greek and Jewish minority schools across Istanbul.

Under a framework established in 2012, foreign national children were permitted to attend minority schools as "guest students," though they were ineligible to receive official diplomas upon completion. Reports of the rule's sudden reversal after 14 years have raised concerns among Turkey's Armenian community and civil rights advocates.
