David Luiz has insisted that Angel di Maria is 'one of the top three wingers in the world' and represents a major coup for Paris Saint-Germain.
The Argentina international is expected to sign for the French giants after missing a flight to join current club Manchester United on their pre-season tour of the United States.
Di Maria signed for United last summer for a British record £59.7million transfer fee but struggled for form and fitness in his maiden campaign in the Premier League.
Luiz has moved to dismiss suggestions that Di Maria, with whom he played alongside at Benfica between 2007 and 2010, is over the hill and backed the 27-year-old to return to his best.
'We want to win the Champions League and of course Di Maria is a player that can help us go up another step,' Luiz told reporters after PSG's penalty shootout defeat by Chelsea in the International Champions Cup.
'He's fast, technical, he plays for the team, he knows how to play as an individual, how to pass, how to score.'
Di Maria netted just three Premier League goals in 27 appearances for United last season, but did provide 10 assists - a total bettered only by Chelsea playmaker Cesc Fabregas and Arsenal's Santi Cazorla.
A break-in at his Cheshire home mid-season unsettled the player and his family.
Di Maria was part of the Argentina squad that reached the final of the Copa America earlier this summer before losing on penalties to host nation Chile.
