French skier, Margot Simond dies in a training accident at the age of 18

French alpine skier Margot Simond, 18, died during a training session ahead of the Red Bull Alpine Park competition in Val d'Isère, the resort's management said on Thursday, according to RMC Sport.

The accident occurred on April 24. While details of the incident have not been disclosed, organizers confirmed that conditions on the course were favorable at the time. The event has since been canceled.

Simond was the reigning French U18 slalom champion.

The tragedy comes amid a series of fatal incidents in the Alps this year. On January 30, avalanches in the French Alps claimed the lives of four Norwegian skiers and one Swiss national. Another avalanche struck Italy's Piedmont region on January 13, injuring five skiers near the Swiss border.
