Eighteen athletes from Armenia have arrived in Azerbaijan’s capital Baku to attend the first European Games that will start on June 12.
They athletes were met at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport by members of the organizing committee and volunteers.
They were driven to their apartments at the Village of Athletes near the Olympics Stadium.
The Armenians will fight for medals in boxing, wrestling, shooting, sambo and judo.
Azerbaijan is in a state of war with Armenia, which is still occupying Azerbaijan’s Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven adjacent districts.
Some 20,000 Azerbaijanis were killed and a million displaced as a result of the Armenian occupation.
Large-scale hostilities ended with a cease-fire in 1994 but no peace agreement has been signed.
