Azerbaijan lead the way in women's Volleyball

With every team now having played three games, only two teams remain undefeated in the women's Volleyball at the Baku 2015 European Games – Azerbaijan in Pool A, and Serbia in Pool B.

Azerbaijan are the most successful scoring side with their spiking attempts, with 37.19 per cent of their total 320 attempts hitting the mark.

The most dominant player of the tournament to date has been Azerbaijan’s Polina Rahimova, who has scored a mammoth 82 points so far. That is 22 more than the second-highest scorer, Croatia’s Samanta Fabris.

Italy’s Anastasia Guerra is the most efficient spiker in the tournament, with success in 39.53 per cent of her 86 attempts. Azerbaijan are tied with Poland and Bulgaria at the top in block scoring, with 35 kill blocks at an average of 3.18 per set.

Serbia’s Milena Rasic is the best blocker to date, with 44 attempts and 14 kill blocks, meaning she has earned an average of 1.40 per set. In second place is Bulgaria’s Hristina Ruseva with 42 attempts, 12 kill blocks and an average of 1.09.

Germany are the tournament’s top ace scorers with 29, closely followed by Azerbaijan and Poland who have both registered 25. Azerbaijan’s Odina Bayramova is the best server, with 10 aces, and the best digger is Turkey’s Gizem Karadayi, with an average of 2.36 per set. The best setter, and by some distance, is the Netherlands’ Laura Dijkema, with an average of 11.73 per set.

The Netherlands have an opportunity to overtake Serbia when the two sides meet at 14:30 on Friday afternoon, before things no doubt get rather louder as the Azerbaijan team return to the scene of their success at 20:00 against Belgium.
