Azerbaijan will earn hundreds of millions of U.S. dollars on the implementation of the North-South Transport Corridor project, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said.


"The building of this corridor and its operations will bring our country hundreds of millions of dollars," Aliyev said at a meeting with community members in the Ismayilli district.


The matter was "seriously discussed" during the first summit of the presidents of Azerbaijan, Iran and Russia in Baku, he said.


Two major transnational projects, i.e. the East-West Transport Corridor and the North-South Transport Corridor, are being implemented with Azerbaijan's involvement and in some respects at its initiative, Aliyev said.


"Transport is a field that may earn us a lot of foreign currency in the future. We have grounds for saying that, taking into account our geographical location and the work that has been done," he said.
