Azerbaijan rejects Iranian torture claims

The AzeriMinistry of Interior has denied allegations of torture of an Iranian national inpolice custody.

Iran’sstate television channel Press TV said yesterday Hasan Faraji, who was arrestedfor “walking past” the Israeli embassy in Baku, is being tortured by Azeri police to “make confessions infavor of Israel”.

Press TV also claimed that theIranian embassy in Baku has been denied access to Faraji in violation ofinternational law.

Sadiq Gozalov, head of theAzeri Interior Ministry’s press service, dismissed the report as groundless.

In an interview with APAnews agency, Gozalov said the Iranian national has no complaints about hisdetention conditions and denies reports of torture or pressure.

Gozalov also said no onefrom the Iranian side had asked for access to the defendant.
