A group of Azerbaijani lawmakers led by Samad Seyidov, head of the parliament’s international and inter-parliamentary relations committee, has visited Israel at the invitation of Knesset, the Jewish state’s parliament.
The delegation included Asim Mollazade, chairman of the Democratic Reforms Party of Azerbaijan who’s also a member of the Azerbaijani-Israeli parliamentary friendship group; Sevinc Fataliyeva, deputy head of the parliament’s international and inter-parliamentary relations committee; Yevda Abramov, head of the parliamentary friendship group; and Emiliya Xudiyeva, head of the Israeli Center in Baku.
The Azerbaijani delegation met Israeli President Reuven Rivlin, Knesset’s Speaker Yuli-Yoel Edelstein, the chairman of the Israeli parliament’s international relations and defense committee, Tzachi Hanegbi, the head of the Israeli-Azerbaijani parliamentary friendship group, Avigdor Liberman and other Israeli officials.
The Azerbaijani lawmakers thanked the Israeli president for his speech on the Xocali genocide and for his support for Azerbaijan’s position in the conflict with Armenia. The sides discussed Azerbaijani-Israeli relations in detail.
The Israeli officials and lawmakers praised Azerbaijan for its respect for multiculturalism. They said Jews have been provided with every opportunity in Azerbaijan to develop their culture. The level of tolerance Jews enjoy in Azerbaijan cannot be seen anywhere else in the world. They said Israel is interested in expanding bilateral relations with Azerbaijan in all areas.
It was the first visit by an Azerbaijani parliamentary group to Israel at the invitation of Knesset.
