Azerbaijani operator ends wireless Internet service

The service will be suspended from March 10.

The company told to Trend that Azerbaijani communication operator "Ultel" suspends the provision of Internet service over a CDMA wireless network.

The service will be suspended from March 10, in connection with which the company offers its subscribers to use alternative technologies for Internet access.

"The demand for data services over CDMA networks has lost its relevance because of the lack of the possibility of organizing on the basis of its high-speed broadband services," the company said.

Data transfer rate in CDMA network is 128 kilobits per second.

To provide services based on CDMA wireless broadband internet it is essential to modernize the network and the application of technology EV-DO (Evolution-Data Optimized), which will increase the data transfer rate up to 280 megabits per second.

As "Ultel" told Trend earlier, the company is interested in the deployment of wireless broadband services based on EV-DO, but this requires frequency resources that a company can receive with an approval of the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies of Azerbaijan.

Wireless communication network CDMA2000 1X of "Ultel" company, covering Baku and Absheron peninsula, was commissioned in 2006 (ATS-480).
