Baku 2015 Gymnastics competition draw results announced

The European Games confirms results of the Gymnastics competition draw from the National Gymnastics Arena in Baku.

Baku 2015 European Games has today confirmed the results of the Gymnastics competition draw which took place in the National Gymnastics Arena in Baku, website for BEGOC reports.

Led by the European Union of Gymnastics (UEG) President Georges Guelzec, and facilitated by the Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation (AGF) and Baku 2015, the draw determined the order in which gymnasts will compete in the five competition disciplines at the first European Games.

Mr Pierce O’Callaghan, Director of Sport at Baku 2015, said: "Today marks an important milestone in what will be an exciting and thrilling Gymnastics competition at the first ever European Games. I am sure that with the support of the UEG and the AGF, we will deliver a competition which will delight and entertain both athletes and spectators in Baku this summer.”

The draw occurred on the eve of the Open Joint Azerbaijan Championship in Gymnastics, which takes place on 4 – 6 March at the National Gymnastics Arena, and is the next event in the Baku Prepares series of test events ahead of the European Games.

Europe’s finest Gymnasts will compete across the following five competition disciplines at Baku 2015:

Artistic Gymnastics: Four days of competition beginning on 14 June; 179 athletes and 14 medal events, featuring team and individual events for men and women.

Aerobic Gymnastics: Three days of competition beginning on 17 June; 67 athletes and 2 medal events, in mixed pairs and groups.

Acrobatic Gymnastics: Three days of competition beginning on 17 June; 55 athletes and 6 medal events, in mixed pairs and women’s group events.

Rhythmic Gymnastics: Three days of competition beginning on 17 June; 93 athletes and 8 medal events in women’s group and individual events.

Trampoline: Three days of competition beginning on 17 June; 53 athletes and 4 medal events in men’s and women’s individual and synchronised events. 

All disciplines will be held at the National Gymnastics Arena, a new 6,800-capacity purpose-built venue, which is also the home of the Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation. The venue is located within walking distance of the Baku 2015 Athletes Village, and was officially opened by the President and First Lady of Azerbaijan, in April 2014.
