Germany's unemployment rose slightly to 6.7 percent in August, 0.1 percent higher than it was in July, the Federal Employment Agency announced on Thursday.

Compared with July, the unemployment figure in August rose by 30,000 to 2.902 million, which was 44,000 less year on year, according to the figures of the Nuremberg-based agency.

"The good performance of the labor market tends to continue," said Frank-Juergen Weise, head of the agency. "We currently don't expect any significant changes for the next time."

However, the newly released report of market research group GfK showed that German consumers' economic expectations have had the biggest decline since 1980 as the weakening eurozone economy and geopolitical risks hit Europe's largest economy.

In addition, the indicator values for income expectations and for willingness to buy in August also fell slightly compared to July.
