International reaction to Iran drone strikes on Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan
BAKU — International reactions continued on Thursday after Iran carried out drone strikes on Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, with Ukraine, Saudi Arabia and Qatar condemning the attacks and expressing support for Baku.
Ukraine’s ambassador to Azerbaijan, Yuriy Husev, said the Ukrainian embassy in Baku was closely monitoring reports about Iranian drone strikes on the territory of Nakhchivan.
“We express our support and solidarity with Azerbaijan and call for unity in strengthening efforts against regimes that undermine global security,” the ambassador said.
Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry also condemned Iran’s drone strikes on Azerbaijani territory.
In a separate statement, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry said it strongly condemned Iranian drone strikes targeting Nakhchivan International Airport and an attempted ballistic missile attack on Turkey.
The ministry said such actions represent a dangerous escalation, a serious violation of state sovereignty and a direct threat to regional security and stability.
Qatar called on Iran to refrain from creating new sources of tension in the region and to respect international law and the principles of good neighbourliness. It also reaffirmed its full solidarity with Turkey and Azerbaijan and support for measures taken to protect their sovereignty, security and territorial integrity.
