Azerbaijan has relocated 110 families, or 397 people, to the city of Aghdam, the State Committee for Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons said.

Earlier, groups of returnees were also sent to the villages of Shushakend and Khanyurdu in Khojaly district, the settlement of Girmizi Bazar in Khojavand district, and the village of Mammadbeyli in Zangilan district.

Aghdam was liberated in November 2020 following the Second Karabakh War and is considered one of the most heavily damaged regions. Prior to the conflict, the district had a population of around 143,000.

Under the government’s “Great Return” program, up to 20,000 people are expected to be resettled in Aghdam by 2026.
