TotalEnergies targets year-end launch of Absheron Phase 2 execution
TotalEnergies is in the tendering phase for the second stage of development of the Absheron gas-condensate field and expects to move into the execution phase before the end of this year, TotalEnergies Azerbaijan Country Chair Emmanuel de Guillebon said.
He said field studies for the second phase had been completed.
The second phase envisages a subsea development with three new wells, each producing around 40,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, including about 70% gas and 30% condensate.
The project includes a 140-km pipeline to transport production directly from the field to shore without offshore production platforms.
De Guillebon said part of the gas would be exported to Turkey through the South Caucasus Pipeline (SCP), while the remainder would be supplied to the domestic Azerbaijani market.
“Yesterday, we signed a gas sales agreement with BOTAS,” he said.
According to de Guillebon, the three new wells will add around 120,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day to the existing early production phase, which currently produces about 40,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
He said TotalEnergies, together with SOCAR and XRG, was evaluating opportunities for additional wells in the future.
“Absheron is a very large reservoir. We are hopeful that we can add additional wells in the future, but these plans are still under maturation,” de Guillebon said.
