Academic year begins in Azerbaijan: 2.2 million students return to classrooms
September 15 marks Knowledge Day across Azerbaijan, launching the 2026–2027 academic year across the country's general education institutions. A total of 2.2 million learners are slated to study nationwide this academic year, including over 1.7 million pupils enrolled in primary and secondary schools.
The educational network continues to expand in the liberated territories, where 15 newly established and restored educational facilities are entering service this year. In the capital, the Baku City Education Department announced that more than 504,000 pupils will attend municipal public schools, with first-graders exceeding 39,000. Across all schools, the nationwide inaugural class has been dedicated to the theme "Year of Urban Planning and Architecture".
