Azerbaijani Major General Isgandar Allahverdiyev dies
Major General Isgandar Allahverdiyev, a former deputy minister of national security and commander of Azerbaijan's border troops, has died, the State Border Service announced. Born in 1947 in Baku, Allahverdiyev was appointed chairman of the newly established State Border Protection Committee in 1991 and promoted to major general in 1992.
Throughout his military career, he served as head of the Border Troops Directorate, Border Troops commander, and deputy head of the State Security Service's Heydar Aliyev Academy, holding numerous state decorations including the Azerbaijani Flag Order.
