Caspian Sea commission to meet in Azerbaijan
The inaugural session of the intergovernmental commission addressing the dropping water levels of the Caspian Sea will take place in Azerbaijan during the first half of 2027. The agreement to establish the joint commission was reached at the Caspian Ecological Summit, attended by the heads of state of Azerbaijan, Russia, Iran, Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistan.
The initiative to form a coordinated multilateral mechanism to examine the underlying drivers of the Caspian's shallowing was proposed by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
