Turkish representatives at the expert level are working on implementing the initiative to create an international gas hub in their territory with Russia, Consul General of Russia in Istanbul Andrey Buravov said, reported from TASS.

"This initiative was previously put forward by Russia in the context of attempts by the US and EU countries to limit Russia's energy export opportunities to third countries. Currently, both countries continue to work at the expert level on developing technical aspects of implementing this initiative,” he said.

According to him, more detailed information about the project is available in the profile organizations of the two countries.

In October 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed the idea of creating Europe's largest gas hub in Türkiye, where transit volumes lost through Nord Stream could be redirected. Turkish authorities state that in terms of infrastructure, almost everything is ready in the country for the project's implementation.

Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar previously announced plans to open a gas trading center in Istanbul in 2025 with the participation of Türkiye’s BOTAŞ and Russia's Gazprom companies within the framework of the international gas hub project.
