Aliyev says large-scale geological exploration under way in Karabakh, calls on scientists to join
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said large-scale geological exploration is under way in Karabakh and East Zangazur and called on Azerbaijani scientists to take an active part in the process.
“By my instruction, extensive geological work has been carried out in Karabakh and East Zangazur for several months. I invite Azerbaijani scientists to join this effort,” Aliyev said.
He noted that discovering and developing gold, silver, copper and polymetal deposits would create new jobs and accelerate the economic recovery of the liberated regions.
“These studies will help us use our natural resources more efficiently and ensure sustainable economic growth in Karabakh and East Zangazur,” he added.
Aliyev also stressed the need to study and promote Azerbaijan’s historical heritage and place names:
“Our rich history has long been distorted by Armenia and the Armenian diaspora. Azerbaijani scholars must prepare more research, exhibitions and maps to present the truth to the world. We must show that these lands historically belong to the Azerbaijani people.”
He said that ancient Azerbaijani toponyms, including Lake Goycha (now Sevan), should be preserved in official academic publications:
“We must study and promote our history so that both Azerbaijani youth and the international community understand our heritage and the legitimacy of our historical presence on these lands,” Aliyev said.
