Azerbaijan holds awareness seminar on implementation of Competition Code
An awareness seminar on the requirements of the Competition Code was held at the Anti-Monopoly and Consumer Market Control State Agency under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The event brought together representatives of organisations operating in the energy, trade, manufacturing, telecommunications, tourism and other sectors. Participants were briefed on the principles of competition policy in the field of natural monopolies, as well as the state oversight mechanisms предусмотренные by the Competition Code.
Around 30 representatives of business entities took part in the seminar. A presentation titled “Actions of state authorities and natural monopoly entities that restrict competition” was delivered by Shamsi Rzali, head of the agency’s department for state oversight of natural monopolies.
The presentation outlined key principles of competition policy in natural monopoly sectors and provided information on anti-competitive actions by state authorities, local self-government bodies and regulatory agencies. The seminar also covered state supervision of natural monopolies, regulatory tools applied in this area, and approaches to assessing the impact of subsidies and other forms of state aid on competition.
In addition, participants were informed about liability measures for violations of competition legislation and the mechanisms for applying sanctions against anti-competitive behaviour by state bodies and natural monopoly entities.
