Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev held a series of bilateral meetings in the Swiss resort of Davos on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum, according to the presidential press service.

Aliyev met Andre Esteves, chairman of Brazil’s investment bank and asset manager BTG Pactual. The president highlighted Azerbaijan’s macroeconomic stability, fiscal discipline and long-term development strategy, noting that international rating agencies have upgraded the country’s sovereign rating to investment grade with a positive outlook. The sides also discussed potential cooperation with the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan.

He also met Morten Dyrholm, senior vice-president of Vestas Wind Systems, to discuss the company’s activities in Azerbaijan’s renewable energy sector and opportunities to expand cooperation, particularly in wind power.

Aliyev held talks with Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, head of the World Health Organization, noting Azerbaijan’s cooperation with the WHO and its support for the organisation’s projects, including assistance provided during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The president also met Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, chairman and chief executive of global port operator DP World, highlighting Azerbaijan’s role at the crossroads of key international transport corridors and the scope for expanding cooperation.

In addition, Aliyev held a meeting with Jacob Aarup-Andersen, chief executive of Carlsberg Group. The talks covered localisation of production in Azerbaijan, including barley processing in Imishli, plans to localise packaging materials, and a significant rise in exports from Azerbaijan in 2025.
