Alat cargo airport to open next year
The cargo airport under construction in the Alat Free Economic Zone is scheduled to begin operations next year.
Valeh Alasgarov, chairman of the Alat Free Economic Zone Authority, said the airport would become a key element of Azerbaijan’s transport and logistics infrastructure.
The project will cover more than 750 hectares. In its initial phase, the airport is expected to handle 500,000 tonnes of cargo annually, with capacity planned to increase to 1.5 million tonnes at a later stage.
The facility is expected to strengthen Azerbaijan’s role as a regional transit hub by integrating air cargo services with the Alat Free Economic Zone’s maritime, rail and road transport infrastructure.
